rolling in the deep

i am officially obsessed with the new Adele album, 21. I was impressed with her vocals, obviously, upon immediate listen when she popped up on the scene a couple of years ago as a fresh-faced Brit with that monstrous voice. And she was certainly impressive on the live stage. But two years later, it seems young Adele is coming into her own and really pushing past her contemporaries with material and pipes to match. Her confidence shines through. She doesn't need my help with this blog, as she has the number one album in the UK and now the US. But I love it, and highly recommend it. It would be easy with that voice to simply rest on it, but also unlike her contemporaries, she also writes her own material.

The other, however less important, thing I love about Adele's commercial and critical success is that she is an honest-to-goodness, gorgeous girl who isn't a size 0 and doesn't sport skimpy outfits and autotune. While unintentional (as she is just being herself), it is heartening to see a normal sized, beautiful and wildly talented young woman as a successful example to other young (and older) women everywhere.

Watch the entire Live from Letterman concert here. But for now, enjoy!
