Kayleigh Goldsworthy Burrower

With an initial spark that quickly ignites into a barnburner, Kayleigh Goldsworthy delivers her debut solo record, Burrower. It’s immediately obvious that Kayleigh is a pro, delivering crisp and clean production and focused lyrical content.

Burrower does indeed begin with a “Spark,” the lead track that sets the bar for the rest of the songs to come. It’s catchy, quick and showcases the strength of Kayleigh’s vocals with immediacy. Featuring a great hook and clever play on lyrics, it’s one of the standout tracks, alongside the memorable and warmly wonderful “Tennessee.” This is a song you want playing from your speakers when you’re the one driving down I-65, a sort of road and stage anthem that will resonate with songwriters and fans.

“Streetlights” bears some remarkable, stripped-down moments vocally. Kayleigh’s vocals shine in a sweet, vulnerable performance that extends into the lovely “Ordinary Day.” In fact, this is a good time to note the progression of the songs, the easy way that they move in and out of each other. The quiet moments and smart song selections make the banjo-driven, harmonious “Where the Summer Goes” even more effective. Kayleigh’s country/bluegrass tone comes out to play here and on “I Want You Around,” and it’s a refreshing injection of classic sound. “Singing Bird” is another strong contender on a well-paced and lyrically robust collection of songs, a wonderful close to the album that strikes just the right note to end on.

While Kayleigh’s songs benefit from a wide range of influences from classic rock to modern folk, both her songwriting voice and her pristine vocals cut through the crowd. She has something to say, it’s fresh and endearing and easy to get lost in the confines of Burrower. What’s also clear is that she’s ready to embark on a solo career that explores what I believe is a very deep pool of talent. Kayleigh Goldsworthy has the ability to translate her unique take on the world in a way that will resonate with everyone who hears her sing, and it’s exciting to think about where she will go next on her musical journey.
