Sub Pop Records Silver Jubilee Celebration in Seattle

It’s impossible to have a discussion regarding influential independent labels without mentioning Sub Pop in the same breath. What’s even more impossible is not getting excited when the fine folks at Sub Pop decide to step it up one more notch and celebrate their Silver Jubilee (25 years!) with a free “public display of affection” on July 13 in Seattle.

I remember rolling into Seattle for the first time in 1996 with two stops firmly on my list of must-visits: the Crocodile Cafe and the Sub Pop Records storefront. I was treated to not only one, but two, singularly Seattle experiences that day. A bit kismet, indeed. Mudhoney was playing at the Croc that night, and I bought nearly everything in the Sub Pop store without having heard any of it before. In the summer of 2012, I attended my first Bumbershoot as a new Seattle resident: I practically sat half the day at the Sub Pop stage and watched the awesome return of Mudhoney completing my rock’n'roll circle of life that night. And now to mark the one-year anniversary of my Seattle citizenship, I get to celebrate the amazing array of artists at the Sub Pop Silver Jubilee on July 13.

Congratulations, Sub Pop Records, for having balls and the persevering conviction to foster great relationships with amazing musical talent for the last 25 years. And for showing everyone else how it’s done. You are the ambassadors of independent musical artistry, and we can’t wait for the next 25…

Sub Pop Silver Jubilee

From the Sub Pop site:
In honor of our 25th anniversary year, we at Sub Pop Records will be hosting an altogether free event in Seattle’s historic Georgetown neighborhood. Along and surrounding Airport Way, we are fairly certain there will be some combination of… Actual live bands, playing actual live music! Some sort of art-related something or other! Like, in a gallery space, we’re thinking! A record fair-type event! Food! Beer and wine! (The food and beer and wine and soda or whatever, you will have to pay for! These parts are not free!) Good times and opportunities to embarrass yourself and those who’d always hoped for better for you!
